Peckforton Parish Meeting date for 2024-2025
The Parish will meet at 19:00 in the Peckforton and Beeston Village Hall on the dates below. Please note that circumstances make mean that these dates have to be changed.
Tuesday 3rd September 2024
Tuesday 3th December 2024
Tuesday 11th March 2025
Tuesday 13th May 2025 (Annual Parish Meeting, and Ordinary Parish Meeting to be held concurrently)
Peckforton and Beeston Village Hall – Special Meeting on 7th November 2023 – Election of a new Chair and members of the Committee.
Jimmy Rae, acting Chair of the Committee has asked for the Parish Meeting to Publicise this, on his behalf.
The purpose of this meeting is to elect new members to the Management Committee and appoint a new Chair.
The meeting is open to all residents of Peckforton and Beeston and will be followed by the regular meeting of the Management Committee.
In accordance with the Deed of Trust for the hall, anyone wishing to put themselves forward either for election to the Management Committee or appointment as Chair needs to be proposed and seconded by at least two existing committee members.
Special Meeting on 11th July 2023 – Election of a new Chair of Peckforton Parish Meeting
On 9th May 2023, announced in the Annual Parish Meeting, John Doyle indicated that he will resign the Chair and that therefore the Parish must seek a new Chair.
The Clerk noted that a Chair role was required to maintain the Parish Meeting, as Jackie Weaver says – “I’m afraid that there are no alternatives – a chair must be found.”
The Annual Parish Meeting agreed that John would remain in the Chair until a special meeting on the 4th July, where a process to elect the new Chair would be carried out. John indicated that he wished to provide this notice in order that the widest consideration could be given to Peckforton parish members to consider putting themselves forward.
John indicated that he was saddened to resign the Chair, but it would be a requirement as a consequence of him moving outside of the Parish boundary. He indicated that he had enjoyed the role, and felt that considerable progress had been made over the last 12 months on Parish issues – whilst acknowledging that there still remains much to progress.
John will be willing to discuss the role with any potential applicants and he can be contacted initially via peckfortonparishchair@gmail.com After the election of the new Chair, John will be happy to provide a handover report and discussion to aid the new Chair. (This meeting was planned for 4th July, but has been moved following several requests from Parishioners)
Peckforton Village – What is important to the residents of Peckforton?
Following his election as Chair of Peckforton Parish Meeting in June 2022, John Doyle promised to ask the residents what was important to them, please see below for John’s summary of what happened and his report. (The original request for information is below in blue.)

Peckforton Parish Meeting – What’s on your mind ? and how should we communicate with you ?
Hello Peckforton Residents,
I was elected as Chair of the Parish Meeting on 14th June and I am looking forward to my time in the role. For those of you who don’t know me, Amanda, dog Jack and I, have lived at the old Sawmill on Quarry Bank for three years having moved from Nantwich.
I am very keen on progressing issues of importance to the community and this note is my way of not only getting your views, but also taking the opportunity to check the Parish Meeting’s database of resident’s names and addresses as well as resident’s email addresses. You understand that our main source of data is the December 2021 Electoral Roll, published to the Parish Meeting by Cheshire East Council, but we appreciate that this may now have discrepancies, as people move in and out of the area.
I have attached a questionnaire asking for confirmation of these details, and seeking your views about what is important to you as residents.
If you are no longer resident in the village and therefore don’t need to be on our database, would you be kind enough to email to say so, and we’ll update the database ?
Regards
John Doyle

What is on your mind?
Whilst I have some ideas (see below) I would like to know what you think about:
- Things that you believe need addressing or improving in the community
- Suggestions for things that will bring the community more together e.g., social events
I have arranged for two special meetings in the Village Hall @ 19.00 – 20.30 on: 6th July 2022 and 19th July 2022
If you can’t make either meeting, we have a method to capture your views in the questionnaire below. Once all the views are gathered, I will report on the results and bring a proposal to the Parish Meeting of the 20th September and will publish it on the Peckforton web site https://www.peckfortonparish.org.uk/ as soon as possible.
Communications in the Parish
One of the things I want to improve is the effectiveness of two-way communications between the Parish Meeting and residents. There is now a direct line to the email of the Parish Chair.
In addition to the Notice Board and the Website, the Parish Meeting Clerk – Chris Jones peckfortonparishclerk@gmail.com has the information from the Electoral Roll (as published in December last year) of all the name and addresses as well as a list of about 60 email addresses when people have given their permission to use them for parish communications. Some may be out of date, and we cannot always connect email addresses to peoples’ names. In short, I can’t be sure we have a means of being able to communicate to everyone!
Whilst emails are less expensive, easier and quicker way for the Parish to communicate with you, there may be some people who do not wish to use emails. I need to know what you prefer. On the form below, please provide your details and preferences.
Returning your Questionnaires
We need the questionnaire returning by 18th July. There are four ways you can return your questionnaire:
- Return it to our Clerk, Chris Jones by reply to this email or email it to me at peckfortonparishchair@gmail.com
- Bring a completed form to one of the special ‘drop in’ meetings above
- Drop off your completed questionnaire at the Village Hall letter box
- Drop off your completed questionnaire at my house – The Sawmill, Quarry Bank
What we will do with the opinions we gather?
Once the drop-in meetings have happened, and the deadline for the return of the questionnaires has passed I will report on the results and bring a proposal to the Parish Meeting of the 20th September and will publish it on the Peckforton web site https://www.peckfortonparish.org.uk/ as soon as possible.
Future Parish meetings
The regular Parish Meetings at the Hall are at 19.00 on:
- 20th September 2022
- 20th December 2022
- 14th March 2023
- 9th May 2023 to incorporate the Annual Parish Meeting – usually held just before the usual Parish Meeting.
Your Views & Contact Details
Please use the questionnaire here (https://www.peckfortonparish.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Questionnaire-for-Website-and-email.docx ) and return it to me as above. Some of the things on my mind are below: –
But it is important I get your views.
Parish Meeting Management | Community |
Improved Parish communications with village residents. | Get clarity on the Estate plans for the tree re-planting near the Hall and the restitution of the Hall car park. |
Increased collaboration between Peckforton and Beeston Parish meetings. | Make progress on the stalled speeding and highway safety report submitted to the local authority 12 months ago |
Better collaboration between the Parish Meeting and Village Hall committee | 2-3 community social events – to be decided |
Set up sub-groups of volunteers to tackle village priorities. | Quarry Bank sheds and surroundings to the re-planted tree areas next to the Hall area |
Set up more effective communications between the Parish and the Estate. |
Regards
